James Glass has been working for the Diocesan Board of Finance, as a separate company, from February 2009. He was previously assisting in work carried out by other Diocesan contractors in the Bath area.
Since 2009, James has been able to help the Board with general maintenance work and improvement works to various properties of a substantial nature, as well as minor works. James has coordinated projects both to a budget and a timescale and has had an excellent working relationship with the clergy who have worked with him within their own homes. Often this is difficult but James has been courteous and co-operative and people speak highly of his work.
As a surveyor, I have found his work to be of a high standard and the sub-trades that James employs have also been able to provide all the certification and work to the excellent standard that the Diocese demands.
The work involved has included:
- fitting new kitchens
- fitting new bathrooms
- internal decoration work
- external renovation work
- PVCU installation
- general electrical work being co-ordinated as part of the contracts
James generally works with little supervision but is adept at contacting the Diocesan Surveyor when queries arise or difficulties are found and usually has a sensible answer for repairs. He is also conscious of the demands of some householders over and above the budget levels that are available and he is good at smoothing out issues during the contracts.
I am sure James would be able to get individual references from members of the clergy, if required. This Diocesan Surveyor was grateful for his input to jobs. We will continue to use the firm on a regular basis, as and when work is available.
James has also been helpful in that he has been prepared to travel to carry out works where we have needed to meet a deadline and the costs have not been excessive above the normal rate.
I would have no hesitation in recommending James Glass as a suitable contractor for general maintenance work.

The build which was originally an extension ie converting our bungalow into a house was scheduled to take 9 months. Unfortunately we encountered a few problems during the course of the work – namely discovering that the house was unsafe and not able to support a second storey. During this extremely stressful time James was always calm and reassuring and, in spite of all the problems the rebuild presented, the project was still finished on time..."

We would like to put on record how pleased we have been with Mr Glass who undertook the building work on our property. Unfortunately we encountered a few problems during the course of the work – namely discovering that the house was unsafe and not able to support a second storey. Therefore, we had no option but to have the house demolished and start from scratch. During this extremely stressful time James was always calm and reassuring and, in spite of all the problems the rebuild presented, the project was still finished on time.

When we bought our property, we had a time frame of 7 weeks to complete all the works and move in before our lease ran out on our previous property. Due to this and with Christmas was just around the corner, it was imperative that time was really of the essence as was the importance of remaining within our allocated budget. Not only was everything we wanted renovated and installed was completed to the highest standard, but was within budget and one day early.
Reflecting now on what was actually achieved by James, both my fiancee and I just think it absolutely remarkable value for money, especially when you take into account the severe weather conditions we experienced. No matter what, come sleet, snow or ice, they were on site everyday before I arrived at 8am and never finished for the day before 5pm.
James also offered, what I consider the special touch, by providing us a picture album of our house before, during and after the works took place. I believe all of which are available on their website for you to see for yourself the standard of workmanship they completed at our property. Not only is this a great keepsake for the future but am told it good evidence should you then wish to have the property re-valued.
